Late Summer Coastal Camping

Hello, it’s been a little while since I last posted but sometimes life gets in the way doesn’t it. Last week, we had headed to Norfolk for a long weekend by the sea, work had been getting us both down and we needed an escape.

Once we pitched the tent, we pottered down to a very overcast and windswept beach. The waves crashed on the shore and the smell of the sea filled our noses. I felt my shoulders unfurl and finally, for the first time in a few weeks, I felt relaxed. The cold was pretty bracing, but it just felt so good to be out in the fresh air, enjoying nature.

It was a gorgeous first evening, we ate fish and chips by the sea before we were rewarded with the sun bursting through the cloud and casting a golden glow over the beach, it was stunning.

One of my favourite things about camping is sitting in the tent, listening to the sounds of the wild outside, warming my hands with a hot cup of tea and knowing that I don’t have any worries for that short time.

The following morning, we were awoken by soft rain hitting the tent and it made my sleeping bag feel all the more cosy. The rain was to be our constant companion that day, but we didn’t mind, it was fresh and wild as we meandered along the cliff top. We visited a small beach café for breakfast and I had one of the best grilled cheese sandwiches I have ever eaten. We sat under a small shelter, eating our food watching the rain pour down.

Even though we were both drenched and cold, we didn’t care, the waves were ferocious and exciting and mother nature was showing us just how powerful she is. We headed to the pebble beach and watched the waves breaking before hopping on a train and heading to the town of Cromer.

Cromer’s small streets looked glorious in the moody rain and after a lot of pottering around, we had an amazing coffee by the beach as we watched the surfers catching the waves. Once the rain moved in again, we went and warmed up in the pub.

The sunset that evening was breath-taking, the sky was streaked in pastel shades of pink and blue as the sun dipped down on the horizon. It was my favourite evening, after all the rain and cloud I felt so lucky to see such a beautiful sunset. I took my camera, but I didn’t use it as much as I could have, as I just wanted to enjoy the moment.

The evening was only going to get better though, that night as we cosied up in our tent and read, I popped my head out and was just stunned, I had never seen so many stars. I love stars, I love those astrophotography you see on Instagram and I was stunned. It was just incredibly beautiful, and I made sure I popped in and out over the course of the evening.

After not being on a camping trip for a while, it really felt as if nature was treating us. There was a range of wild weather, stunning sunset and so many stars in the inky black sky. Just being cosy in my sleeping bag and enjoying the simple life for a short time meant so much after such a stressful time.

The chilliness made it feel as if summer was on it’s way out and autumn was on its way and that’s my favourite time of year.
