That was 2020
With the new year just a matter of days away, a lot of us will be wondering where 2020 went and looking back on a year lacking in adventure. We are still in Tier 3 in Leicester/Leicestershire so adventures are few and far between. However, looking back on this year, there were some amazing adventures, new places discovered and memories made, so here are just a few of my favourites.
Snake Woodland- this was a dreary, rainy day post lockdown, Sam and I headed to Snake Woodland for a ramble around the woodlands and surrounding Cloughs. There was not a single soul around and Autumn was in full swing treating us to rich colours and raging waterfalls. It was heaven….
Kinder in the Snow- wow this feels a long time ago now, it almost feels like it was years ago rather than a few months. At the start of the year we headed to Edale for a weekend visit and were so excited to find snow as we hiked up Jacobs Ladder to Kinder Scout. It was one of those special days that you never forget, which brilliant blue skies and ankle deep snow.
Glen Coe- we had waited to visit this iconic place for such a long time and it did not disappoint. The weather was sunny one minute then rainy the next. We hiked up the Three Sisters in the pouring rain just soaking in the magic and beauty of landscape around us. With no one else around, it was a truly special moment that often gets me through a tough day.
Isle of Skye- the mysterious and daunting, Old Man of Storr was a out of this world experience. With a challenging muddy hike up, the tranquillity and peace we found was amazing. Pottering around looking up at this ancient landmarks was a highlight of a breathtaking trip to Scotland.
Arisaig Beach- never have I visited such a wild and beautiful beach. With the bluest waves crashing against the whitest sands, it was spectacular. I have so many memories of the wind whipping up my hair and the cold stinging my face and hands as we explored this stunning beach. I collected lots of shells to bring home to remind me of the most beautiful coast.
Kinder in Winter- another stunning day in the Peaks, where we were treated to the most beautiful light I have ever seen inn the Peaks, I didn’t put my camera away as we bimbled up to the highest point in the Peaks. Battling cold temperatures and a biting wind was so worth it for those golden tones.
So there we have it, just a few of my favourites. Lockdown taught me to appreciate every adventure and appreciate my local area too. We saw spring through different eyes this years and soaked up every moment we could outdoors. I am ready for bigger adventures in the year to come, what about you?
Here’s to a healthy and adventurous 2021.
